Kingdom of Tonga
Background
The Global Covid-19 pandemic has affected the Kingdom of Tonga. While the Kingdom has reported no cases the impact of border closures and no tourism is severe. The Tourism industry is one of the largest export earners for Tonga and Covid-19 has completely decimated this.
Tonga already struggles as a developing nation and has not only had to deal with Covid-19 but also Cyclone Harold which ripped through the islands causing widespread devastation back in April 2020. This was just after Tonga had recovered from Cyclone Gita in February 2018.

We have had an overwhelming response from donors and have raised just over TOP200,000. We are all so very grateful and thankful to each and every donor. Thank you so much.
PLEASE NOTE: A similar donation program may be run in 2021. Keep a lookout on this site in the future.
Recipients of Donations
We had more than 25 applications for the program and 15 successful applicants were selected to receive donations. The quality of the applications was excellent. Thank you to all who applied.
All the projects showed that they have:
- a clear point of difference,
- present a long-term opportunity,
- are entrepreneurial young businesses that are filling a clear gap in the market,
- their product/service solves a real and obvious problem.
Our goal is for the funds to go towards people/projects/businesses that are going to create value and jobs for the people of Tonga and be sustainable long-term businesses for future generations.
M Group Tonga’s role
Administrator of Program
The M Group team will be managing the COVID 19 Hardship Donation program on behalf of the Donors. M Group Tonga has been involved in other relief programs most notably the Project Cyclone Gita rebuild in 2018.
The team has extensive experience in project management and many contacts in Tonga to help make this program a success.
With this experience and the assistance of the local business leaders and people M Group will formed a reporting committee and they all decided on how best to distribute the donation funding.
Incubator / Support Services to donation recipients
M Group will work closely with recipients to provide support functions and services to help these businesses & projects grow and be successful. These include:

- Marketing & Sales
- Business Planning & Strategy
- Accounting & Reporting
- Compliance & Admin
- Board meetings
